What is inside the 555 Timer Integrated Circuit

A lot of you (since your reading my blog) knows the LM555/NE555 or simply 555 timer IC. It was designed by Hans Camenzined in 1971 and was released under Signetics (which was later acquired by Philips - which is now NXP)

Guys at Evil Mad Scientist decided to make a discrete version of the ever popular 555 timer and build it into an educational board where you can hook up wires, place oscilloscope probes and you can even solder in building the thing! And the great thing about this recreation of the legendary chip is that it looks like a chip big brother with the notch and the legs!
